How AGS grew into the business it is today
Steve Aston and Peter Squire set up AGS Accountants and Business Advisors Ltd in 1989, after they both developed a scope of knowledge from both ends of the accountancy spectrum. Steve began his career as a Cost Accountant at Herman Smith, a large manufacturing business with over 1,000 employees, while Peter commenced his working life at Blount Adams as a trainee Chartered Accountant in 1979.
Blount Adams was a small firm, providing Peter with a wide variety of work and experience in all aspects of accounting; from preparing sole traders accounts, to auditing large businesses.
During this time, Steve progressed for five years at an engineering company, Herman Smith, before finally reporting directly to the Managing Director on various costing and performance measures. He spent three years at Crutchley & Evans and eventually met Peter at top 20 firm. Blount Adams was taken over by top 20 firm, a national top ten firm at that time, and the pair worked together here for two years.
Steve and Peter acquired an office in Streetly, and set up a practice which has been inspired by the work and experience of both Directors. AGS has grown from a relatively small firm into an accountancy practice with a multi-million pound turnover, thanks to its cost effective, service-driven, proactive approach to accounting. The firm has concentrated solely on its clients’ needs.
The firm builds solutions around the requirements of businesses; their audit backgrounds and tax knowledge helped to grow the business and its procedures internally. AGS Accountants have a fantastic team dedicated to taking the business forward – they are dynamic and open to change; the firm wouldn’t be where it is today without them.
